Arthur Gask is now, very sadly, a largely forgotten crime fiction writer. Very little information seems to be available about the man and his work. Research shows there is even some uncertainty as to his actual birth date. It is possible he was Australian, certainly the was there at the conclusion of his life. His books primarily featured only one returning character, one Gilbert Larose. His published work began in 1923 and he continued up until the time of his death in 1951. For all that time he remained with the same publisher, Herbert Jenkins. This was something to be grateful for as all the books were uniform in nature and benefited greatly from some evocative dust jacket artwork. It is the illustrated covers which make them still of interest to collectors today.

his name continues to live on. It is at times like this one wishes for more information so as to redress
the lack of knowledge about an author who wrote so many good books.
