John Bude was a pseudonym used by Ernest Elmore who was a British born writer. As well as writing he also worked as a stage producer and director. More notably for us though, he was a co-founder of the Crime Writers Association (CWA) in 1953. He was born 1901 and passed away 1953. He wrote some 30 crime fiction novels, the vast majority of which featured his series character Superintendent Meredith. He also wrote 7 other works under the name of Ernest Elmore. |

Final Word
Bude is largely forgotten today which is something of a shame. He was a good
solid writer with a talent for
descriptive settings and good plotting. In fairness he never 'took off' as other
writers did around the period, much
of the reason for this could be laid at the door of his publishers or agent
failing to get his work published in America.
