John Redfern, was an alias used by Ellis Peters who is best known for her Brother Cadfael series. These are largely responsible for the whole plethora of historical mysteries that have subsequently swamped the market. Many of them rather good, PC Doherty springs most immediately to mind, but few stand up to Brother Cadfael. She also wrote under her real name, Edith Pargeter, the result being a large and impressive canon of work which remains extremely popular with both reader and mystery fiction collectors alike. A successful television adaptation featuring Derek Jacobi also helped to bring even wider recognition. |
