Leslie Charteris created one of the most famous characters in the mystery thriller genre, Simon Templar alias The Saint. The authors canon of work started in 1927 with X Esquire and continued in a prolific manner even beyond the authors death. Leslie Charles Bowyer Yin was born in 1907 in Singapore and lead a wide and varied life eventually becoming an American citizen in 1946. The bibliography is something of a nightmare with alternative titles for American editions as well as title changes for re-released titles. He was also responsible for the Mystery Magazine which featured short stories from both well known and new authors, many of which are true first editions. |

Final Word
The author is still highly regarded today, clearly not as popular with readers
as he once was but still
popular amongst collectors. The television and films have all helped in this
respect but ultimately the books
were, and are, the key to the success of The Saint.
