Mary Fitt was born in the United Kingdom 22 June 1897 and died in 1959. Her mystery fiction was written under this name and began in 1936 with Murder Mars the Tour and continued up until 1960. The main series character was Superintendent Mallet who was a solid if unexciting character. Certainly he did not capture the imagination of readers like some of the other Golden Age sleuths. The books are solidly written and plotted however and most benefit from the presence of attractive period cover artwork, particularly the early titles which were done by the redoubtable Eugene Hastain. The author did write under other names and also penned some twelve children's books under this name. |

Final Word
Whilst not having the enduring appeal of Agatha Christie and Dorothy L Sayers
she is still an important author.
Hence the interest from collectors and readers who like the traditional country
house style of writing.
We certainly are keen to acquire her books even if she remains unknown to most.
