Outline of an old price (20p!) rubbed out on the front free end-paper and a couple of tiny bumps to the boards overall VG indeed in a VG+ D/W with a hint of creasing along the top edge of the D/W but which is otherwise un-faded and with no wear, tears or pieces missing. RAMSEY ALF - FOOTBALL Talking Football London, Stanley Paul, 1952, First Edition, Hard Cover, /Dust Jacket Signed by Author First UK Edition. A VG copy in a near fine D/W with just a touch of rubbing to the extremities. Written by Ramsey when he was a member of the Tottenham Hotspur side that won the old First Division in 1951. Ramsey, of course, went on to manage England to their greatest-ever triumph at the World Cup in 1966. The front free end-paper has in excess of 30 signatories. The main signature is from Ramsey himself and is in a slightly-faded blue ink. The other signatories in the book are in blue ball-point from team mates and staff at Spurs at the time including but not limited to: Ron Burgess - one of Spurs greatest ever players and one of the finest midfielders ever to have graced a football pitch. He won 32 caps for Wales. It was Burgess' drive as Captain that spurred Tottenham onto successive championships (Division 2 in 1949-1950 and Division 1 in 1950-1951). Burgess was an enthusiastic supporter of "Push and Run" football devised by Arthur Rowe who was the Manager of Spurs from 1949. [The Push and Run tactical style of play involved quickly laying the ball off to a team-mate and running past the marker tackler to collect the return pass. It proved an effective way to move the ball at pace from goalkeeper to far goal net - player's positions and responsibilities being totally fluid. For the first time Spurs won admirers because of their elan and panache; they played not just to win, but to entertain too. Push and Run was a precursor to Total Football]. Bill Nicholson - in 1952 his best days were still ahead of him but he went on to manage Spurs in October 1958 and inspired the most famous and successful sides in the Club's history. Ted Ditchburn - the goalkeeper who developed the short throw that provided the starting block for Spurs' famous push and run style of the early 50's. Len Duquemin, Sonny Walters, Derek King, Les Medley. All are widely recognised as all-time great Spurs' players. Included with this wonderful book are three vintage Spurs programmes from this era: April 22nd , 1950 (the final game of the Division 2 winning season); September 9th, 1950 and May 5th 1951 (the final game of the Division 1 winning season). An historically important book that belongs with a Spurs collector or at the White Hart Lane museum. For the package of items - £1,000. £1000

ROWLING J K Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone London, Bloomsbury, 1997, First Edition, /Dust Jacket Uncorrected Proof Copy in Proof D/W. The Proof is white with a Yellow stripe and is 224 pages long. It lists ‘Joanne Rowling’ on the copyright page and ‘J A Rowling’ on the title page. It is believed that only proof 200 copies of the Philosopher’s Stone were produced. This copy has been quite heavily read and is in about VG condition. The spine is slightly slanted and there are reading creases down its full length. There are creases to several corners of the book and the rear cover is a trifle soiled. The proof D/W is a large piece of card representing the front and back panels and spine. It is in near fine (or better condition) and has been folded around the proof book for the last 10 years or so. It is interesting to note that the proof D/W has a different back cover and spine colour than was eventually used. It is thought that only 6 proof D/W’s were produced and this is, we believe, the only copy to have come onto the market in the last few years. The proof D/W was issued to show what the boards of the future hardback first edition (and wrappers of the paperback first edition) might look like. The proof origins are plain to see as it lists on the edge of the back cover the following information: June 1997/ £4.50/ 224 pp/ 198x129 mm/ 07475 32745. The ISBN number was eventually used on the first paperback edition which, of course, had the same cover as the first hardback edition. The ultimate addition to any J K Rowling Harry Potter collection and exceedinly scarce. If ever there was a sure-fire long-term investment for the Pension Fund, this is it! £12500
