One of only 250 copies printed for the author by The Anthoensen Press, Portland Maine. There is a B & W illustration by Beatrix Potter mounted on the front cover. Frontispiece and 18 pages illustrations by Beatrix Potter. There are pencil notations in several places in the text in the hand of the late Percy Muir. Leslie Linder: A History of the Writings of Beatrix Potter (Frederick Warne & Co., Limited, London). A VG+ copy in like D/W. Included with both books is some fascinating correspondence between Leslie Linder and Percy Muir comprising: A one page typed and signed letter from Leslie Linder from his address in Buckhurst Hill, Essex dated September 19, 1952. The letter refers to 18 Beatrix Potter books lent by Percy Muir to Linder. The letter makes detailed observations about Muir's copies, in particular, whether or not they are first editions. The Appendix to the letter is a 2-page typed list of "Comments on Miss Quinby's Book (including some additional information). There are several tiny amendments made by Linder (in his hand) to the Appendix. The letter and Appendix are in their original hand-written envelope addressed to Percy Muir at Elkin Matthews, Takeley, Bishop's Stortford. A one page typed, un-signed, letter from Leslie Linder presumably to Percy Muir providing Linder's comments to an article (see below) by Muir on the privately printed 'Peter Rabbit' books. The letter is dated August 1952. Linder argues that the flat backed (flush cut) privately printed Peter Rabbit is the true first edition. He goes on to mention that there was a second 'rounded back' edition in a 'slightly improved binding with pages trimmed before fitting the covers'. A three page typed article (presumably by Percy Muir as there are several hand-written alterations in his hand). The article is undated but likely from 1952. The article comments on the privately printed Peter Rabbit books and "there seem to be good grounds for believing that copies were ready as early as February 1900". He goes on to say that: "As a generalisation there seems to be little objection to the rule that subsequent published first editions, with the exception of Peter Rabbit, must be dated on the title page and must not contain named figures from later books in their end-paper designs". Flopsy Bunnies is an exception to the rule he notes in that a copy collated recently "was dated 1909 (the correct year) on the title-page but included in its end-papers a named drawing of Mrs. Tittlemouse (1910)." A must for any serious Beatrix Potter collector or anybody interested in the bibliographical aspects of her first editions. For the package of 5 items: £750. £750

Ramsey, of course, went on to manage England to their greatest-ever triumph at the World Cup in 1966. The front free end-paper has in excess of 30 signatories. The main signature is from Ramsey himself and is in a slightly-faded blue ink. The other signatories in the book are in blue ball-point from team mates and staff at Spurs at the time including but not limited to: Ron Burgess - one of Spurs greatest ever players and one of the finest midfielders ever to have graced a football pitch. He won 32 caps for Wales. It was Burgess' drive as Captain that spurred Tottenham onto successive championships (Division 2 in 1949-1950 and Division 1 in 1950-1951). Burgess was an enthusiastic supporter of "Push and Run" football devised by Arthur Rowe who was the Manager of Spurs from 1949. [The Push and Run tactical style of play involved quickly laying the ball off to a team-mate and running past the marker tackler to collect the return pass. It proved an effective way to move the ball at pace from goalkeeper to far goal net - player's positions and responsibilities being totally fluid. For the first time Spurs won admirers because of their elan and panache; they played not just to win, but to entertain too. Push and Run was a precursor to Total Football]. Bill Nicholson - in 1952 his best days were still ahead of him but he went on to manage Spurs in October 1958 and inspired the most famous and successful sides in the Club's history. Ted Ditchburn - the goalkeeper who developed the short throw that provided the starting block for Spurs' famous push and run style of the early 50's. Len Duquemin, Sonny Walters, Derek King, Les Medley. All are widely recognised as all-time great Spurs' players. Included with this wonderful book are three vintage Spurs programmes from this era: April 22nd , 1950 (the final game of the Division 2 winning season); September 9th, 1950 and May 5th 1951 (the final game of the Division 1 winning season). RASK MARY COOLIDGE London After Midnight London, Reader's Library, First Edition, Hard Cover, /Dust Jacket (The Reader's Library Publishing Company Limited n.d. [1920's]). First UK Edition. Decorated purple boards with gilt lettering and decorations. Based on the scenario of the Tod Browning production and illustrated with 8 scenes from the photo-play. Page edges quite tanned due to the poor quality of the paper used overall a VG copy (with some foxing to the page edges) in a VG D/W with several chips: a small chip at the head of the spine that stretches a cm or so into the top right hand corner of the lower cover; a 5 mm chip at the base of the spine that stretches half way along the bottom edge of the lower cover; and a 1 x 2.5 cm chip at the bottom left hand corner of the lower cover that removes part of the word LIBRARY from the publisher's logo. A rare movie tie-in for the most famous of all "lost" films directed by Academy Winner Tod Browning and starring Lon Chaney Sr. and Polly Moran. Lon Chaney played a dual-role as Scotland Yard Inspector and as a Vampire. This film (from 1927) was lost by MGM and is widely perceived as being Lon Chaney's masterpiece. Lon Chaney also notably starred in the Phantom of the Opera and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The 8 still photographs from the film depict, inter alia, Lon Chaney in his striking make-up and vampire costume. Very scarce in this, the UK first edition. £875
